YOUNGSTOWN

A 17-year-old was shot and two semiautomatic handguns were recovered by police after a shooting on the North Side.

Treated for a gunshot wound to the shoulder at St. Elizabeth Health Center was Willie Daniel. A police report did not list his address.

Police were called to Belmont Avenue and Wirt Street for a report of gunfire and a large fight at Delaware Avenue and Wirt Street about 9:30 p.m. Friday, and as officers were on their way, they received word that a gunshot victim had just been delivered to the hospital.

When an officer got there, Humility of Mary Health Partners Police were holding a Chevrolet Impala that had several bullet holes, a shattered window, a spent shell casing inside the car, and .40-caliber and 9mm semiautomatic handguns in the glove box. An HMHP officer said Daniel was in the back seat of the car when it came to the emergency room, and the driver and the passenger in the front seat ran away on foot towards Parmelee Avenue, police reports said.

Hospital personnel also found an empty holster on Daniel, reports said.

Daniel told police he was in the car as it was driving on Wirt Street when another car pulled up to it and a person wearing a black sweat shirt fired several shots at the car he was in. He ducked down, and when he realized he was shot, he told the driver to take him to the hospital, reports said.
