Powder in letter leads to evacuation of Ohio building

LEBANON, Ohio

Authorities say a government building in southwestern Ohio was evacuated and three people were taken to a hospital after a woman opened a letter containing a powdery substance and reported her hands burned.

The fire chief in Lebanon says the woman and two workers who helped her wash off the powder were taken to the hospital around midday Monday and later released.

The chief says a hazardous-materials team recovered the envelope and gave it to police for further investigation.

About 100 people were evacuated.

Fire Chief Michael Hannigan said the building housing various health and human-services agencies will reopen today.

Hannigan says the letter apparently contained a form sent by one of the agencies to a client to be filled out and returned.
