The prescription-pill collection effort carried out May 9 at the Geauga-Trumbull Solid Waste Management District, 5138 Enterprise Drive, called Operation Empty Medicine Cabinet, resulted in 38,720 pills being collected.
The project was sponsored by the narcotics-fighting agency Trumbull Ashtabula Law Enforcement Task Force and the The Alliance for Substance Abuse Prevention, which focuses on preventing substance abuse among youth.
Opportunities still are available to drop off unwanted medications at the following locations: Newton Falls Police Station/Administration Building, 19 North Canal St., first floor hallway, 24/7; Trumbull County Sheriff’s Office, 150 High St., Warren, 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m., Monday through Friday; Liberty Township Administration Building, 1315 Church-Hill Hubbard Road, 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday.
Fire investigated
YOUNGSTOWN
Investigators are searching for the cause of a fire at a recently vacant home at 103 Milton Ave. about 2 a.m. Monday that caused $3,000 in damage.
Crews were called to the home by Mill Creek MetroParks police, who noticed smoke coming from the home, fire reports said. Firefighters had to force open the front door and managed to confine the flames to the living room.
Neighbors told firefighters the owners had left about two weeks ago, reports said. No one was injured. Fire reports said the fire started in a ceiling.
