The Doors co-founder Ray Manzarek dies

Ray Manzarek, the keyboardist who was a founding member of The Doors, has died. He was 74.

Publicist Heidi Robinson- Fitzgerald said Manzarek died Monday at the RoMed Clinic in Rosenheim, Germany, surrounded by his family. He had been stricken by bile-duct cancer.

Streisand to receive honorary degree

JERUSALEM

A leading Israeli university says it will present singer Barbra Streisand, 71, with an honorary doctorate when she visits Israel next month.

The Hebrew University of Jerusalem said Monday it was granting the singer the degree because of her concern for human rights and dedication to Israel and the Jewish people.

Broadway’s biggest theater is sold

NEW YORK

Britain’s biggest theater group has reached across the Atlantic Ocean and bought Broadway’s biggest theater from Live Nation Entertainment for about $60 million.

Ambassador Theatre Group said Monday it has acquired The Foxwoods Theatre, the current home of “Spider-Man: Turn Off the Dark.” The theater has about 2,000 seats.

The acquisition makes the Foxwoods the 40th venue owned by the Ambassador Theatre Group.

MacFarlane won’t return to Oscars

LOS ANGELES

Seth MacFarlane is too busy to host the Oscars in 2014.

The multitalented comedian says on Twitter that he “tried to make it work schedulewise, but I need sleep.”

MacFarlane earned mixed reviews for his first outing as Oscar host in February, with some finding his material sexist and anti-Semitic.

The creator of “Family Guy” suggested Oscar producers tap the eccentric actor Joaquin Phoenix to host the show.
