YOUNGSTOWN

A 15-bout amateur card presented by Lights Out Management is slated for June 1 at St. Mary Assumption Center, 356 S. Belle Vista Ave.

Jon “JBeast” Bullock, a Wichita, Kansas, native currently fighting out of Downtown Gymnasium, is the main attraction with Akron’s Jose Rodriguez set to take on Bullock in a 160-pound pairing.

The newest member of the Lights Out Management team, Bullock is a two-time Oklahoma/Kansas Golden Gloves runner-up and 2012 U.S. Golden Gloves quarterfinalist.

“We are very pleased to have Jon fighting out of our gym. He’s not only a great fighter, but a great family man and father who is one of the hardest, most focused workers once he dons the gloves,” team coordinator Mike Cefalde Sr. said.

“We’re pleased to have him as a part of our management team and just as important is the fact that we have heard from other fighters from around the county that would like for us to represent them. We also expect to have another fight card this fall that will benefit a local charity.”

Compared to other amateur boxers, Bullock’s career was late in getting started with four years of collegiate football and another two seasons of play in the Arena II indoor football league consuming most of his time. He’s already earned his master’s in education degree and with 35 amateur fights to his credit, is expected to make his professional debut in late August.

Rodriguez last fought in the area on March 16 as the co-main feature on Jack Loew’s March Madness amateur card, dropping a hard-fought decision to former Chaney High quarterback Vic Toney; his second loss in four months to this year’s national Golden Gloves qualifier.

Other locals set to fight include Soriano Clay and Angel Rojas of Sammy Calderon’s United City Boxing Club and Ronnie Hamayel, who will represent Mean Green Boxing Club.

Clay will fight at 178 pounds and Rojas at 165 pounds while Hamayel will entertain a 152 pound pairing.

Local trainer Keith Burnside has three fighters set for action while two other local pugilists will be making their amateur debuts.

Frankie Donnadio is set for a master’s division 175 pound clash while sons of prominent fighters Ken Sigurani and Rusty Rosenberger are also ready for action.

Rosenberger’s son, Dan, is set at 152 pounds while Sigurani’s son, Ken Jr., awaits a 150-pound match-up.

Anthony Alexander of Campbell’s Mixed Martial Arts will make his debut at 152 pounds as will Jason Mullin at 168 pounds.

International boxing judge Tom Miller of Mineral Ridge will be honored by the group with its lifetime achievement award.

Tickets are $15 each with tables set for both $200 and $300 and outlets include Ackworth Construction, Jensen Lock & Alarm, Groover Roofing & Siding, Roth Brothers/Company of Sodexo, Simon Roofing, Banner Supply, Clemens Wine Cellar, ITAM #30, First Choice Rentals, Comfort Keepers, Patsy’s Fish & Smelts, Tudor Physical Therapy and Snovak Carpet.
