Matt Moore pitched seven innings of five-hit ball to stay unbeaten, Luke Scott and Matt Joyce homered and the Rays beat the Orioles for a three-game sweep. Adam Jones had two hits, stole two bases and drove in a run for the Orioles, who have dropped five straight — all at home.

Red Sox 5, Twins 1

MINNEAPOLIS

John Lackey allowed one hit over six innings before a three-hour rain delay, Dustin Pedroia and Will Middlebrooks homered and Boston beat Minnesota for its fifth straight win. Fans at Target Field saw more than the Twins lose their fifth in a row.

Angels 6, White Sox 2

ANAHEIM, CALIF.

Jason Vargas scattered four hits through seven scoreless innings, Erick Aybar and Howie Kendrick each hit two-run doubles, and the Los Angeles Angels coaxed a pair of bases-loaded walks out of Jake Peavy in the fourth inning of a victory over the White Sox. Alex Rios drove in Chicago’s first run with an eighth-inning double against Dane De La Rosa.

Athletics 4, Royals 3

OAKLAND, CALIF.

Yoenis Cespedes hit a leadoff home run in the eighth inning and the Athletics beat the Royals to complete a three-game sweep. Alex Gordon matched his career high of four hits for Kansas City.

Phillies 3, Reds 2

PHILADELPHIA

Freddy Galvis and Erik Kratz each homered off closer Aroldis Chapman in the bottom of the ninth inning. Chapman (3-2) blew his second straight save opportunity after converting his first eight chances this season. Jay Bruce homered and Homer Bailey tossed seven scoreless innings for the Reds. Joey Votto went 2 for 4 in extending his hitting streak to eight games. He is batting .515 (17 for 33) over the stretch.

Marlins 2, Diamondbacks 1

MIAMI

Ricky Nolasco struck out 11 and the Marlins stopped a season-high seven-game losing streak by holding off Arizona. The Diamondbacks scored once in the ninth. Mike Dunn, the Marlins’ third pitcher of the inning, got pinch-hitter A.J. Pollock to ground out on a 3-2 pitch with the bases loaded to end it. Marcell Ozuna broke a scoreless tie with a two-run double in the sixth. Didi Gregorius had three hits for Arizona, which had won four in a row.

Cardinals 4, Brewers 2

ST. LOUIS

David Freese had an RBI in a four-run fourth inning to go with big plays at third base, and the Cardinals beat former teammate Kyle Lohse for the third time this season. Lohse (1-5) has lost all three of his starts against St. Louis after going 16-3 for the Cardinals last season and then leaving in free agency when they opted to go with younger players.

Mets 4, Cubs 3

CHICAGO

Daniel Murphy hit a tiebreaking home run in the eighth inning and the Mets beat the Cubs for their first series win at Wrigley Field since 2007.

Padres 13, Nationals 4

SAN DIEGO

Andrew Cashner pitched 6 2/3 strong innings and Kyle Blanks and Will Venable homered off Dan Haren to lead the Padres to a victory against the Nationals and a split of their four-game series. Cashner (3-2) allowed three runs and seven hits, struck out six and walked one. The Padres tied their season high in runs and their 15 hits off four Nationals pitchers were two short of their season best. San Diego’s Yonder Alonso homered off Drew Storen leading off the eighth to finish 3 for 4 with two RBIs and three runs scored. It was his sixth homer.

Rockies 5, Giants 0

DENVER

Juan Nicasio scattered three hits over six innings, Carlos Gonzalez and Troy Tulowitzki each drove in two runs and the Rockies won their first series over San Francisco in two years. Dexter Fowler tied a career high with four hits to help the Rockies take three of four from the reigning World Series champions. Jordan Pacheco also drove in a run for Colorado. Nicasio (4-1) shut down one of the top-hitting teams in baseball, striking out five and allowing only an intentional walk before being lifted for a pinch hitter in the sixth.

Braves 4, Dodgers 2

ATLANTA

Ramiro Pena had a tiebreaking sacrifice fly in a four-run eighth inning, Jordan Schafer drove in two runs and the Braves rallied against Los Angeles’ beleaguered bullpen for a rain-soaked victory. Kenley Jansen (1-3) was the loser for the second straight game, this time allowing one hit, two runs and a walk while getting just one out in a game twice delayed by rain.
