Joplin sending help to Moore, Okla.

KANSAS CITY, Mo. — About a dozen public safety employees from Joplin, Mo., are headed to Moore, Okla., to assist in the aftermath of the deadly tornado there.

Joplin, which was hit by a killer twister in May 2011, will work with officials in Moore as search and rescue continues and cleanup begins.

“We remember the amount of assistance that we received following the tornado two years ago and we want to help others as they helped us, Joplin City Manager Mark Rohr said in announcing the aid.

“Our thoughts and prayers are with our neighbors in Oklahoma,” Rohr said.

An F5 tornado hit Joplin on May 22, 2011, killing 158 people.
