POLICE CALLS

A summary of recent criminal activity in Girard and Liberty:

GIRARD

May 10

Identity fraud: An East Liberty Street woman who entered her personal information on a website pertaining to wildlife discovered someone without authorization had registered for a hunting license in her name.

Recovered property: A wallet containing $87 and other items was found at a business in the 200 block of South State Street.

May 11

Burglary: To a garage in the 600 block of East Broadway Avenue, from which a backpack, a chain saw and a leaf blower were removed.

Criminal mischief: A vehicle that a woman had reported stolen was found in the 200 block of South Market Street with damaged locks.

May 12

Assault: A man at ValleyCare Northside Medical Center in Youngstown reportedly was assaulted at a business in the 100 block of West Liberty Street, though he provided no information regarding the crime.

Assault: A Highland Avenue woman told police her juvenile son had been shot in the back with a pellet or similar gun. The boy had a welt in the affected area, a report showed.

May 13

Burglary: Took place in the 700 block of Washington Avenue. Stolen were two firearms.

Arrest: Police responded to a vehicular crash near West Second and Market streets before charging 35-year-old Timothy C. Durr of Nebraska Avenue, McDonald, with operating a vehicle impaired.

LIBERTY

May 7

Arrest: Police took 22-year-old Sarahann L. Oliver into custody at her residence, 1721 Naylor-Lloyd Road, Girard. She was accused of failing to appear in court on a larceny count.

May 8

Animal complaint: A 33-year-old Youngstown-Hubbard Road man was issued a summons after a neighbor reported a dog had attacked a turkey in the accuser’s backyard.

Aggravated menacing: A Holly Drive man alleged a neighbor had threatened to get a gun to kill the accuser’s two sons. The neighbor, however, denied the allegation.

May 9

Domestic violence: A charge was pending against an 18-year-old township man after one of his sisters alleged he had placed her in a headlock and choked her. Another sister alleged the teen had grabbed her legs and tried to punch her, though neither had visible injuries, police said.

Arrest: Police went to the Mahoning County jail to book Javon Simmons of 58 E. Lucius Ave., Youngstown. The 28-year-old Simmons was wanted on a Girard Municipal Court warrant charging failure to appear in court to face a criminal-damaging charge.

Criminal damaging: A sharp instrument was used to poke numerous holes in portions of aluminum siding on a home in the 3700 block of Elmwood Avenue. Damage was estimated at $1,500.

May 10

Burglary: To a residence in the 1300 block of Tibbetts-Wick Road. A closet was ransacked, and jewelry and stamps worth roughly $1,500 were stolen.

Theft by deception: A Martins Ferry, Ohio, woman who had searched online to buy three puppies, reported wiring $750 from Giant Eagle, 4700 Belmont Ave., to someone in Nigeria before learning the process was a scam.

May 10

Arrest: Police responded to a dispute in the 3900 block of Belmont Avenue, where they charged 49-year-old James J. Tsilimos, 1436 Genesee Ave., Warren, with obstructing official business after saying he provided a false name.

Weapon: A traffic stop in the 3500 block of Belmont Avenue led to charges of carrying a concealed weapon and driving under suspension against 27-year-old Annie Carter after officers said Carter, of 2227 Cordova Ave., Youngstown, had a set of brass knuckles.

May 11

Drugs: Police on state Route 193 pulled over Kejuan Clay of 640 Fairgreen Ave., Youngstown, then charged the 20-year-old with cocaine possession after saying Clay, who also was wanted on a warrant, had a bag of suspected crack cocaine.

May 12

Criminal damaging: A car’s passenger-side window was broken in the 10 block of Trumbull Court.

Trespassing: Officers dealt with a vehicle stuck in a retention pond near Townsend and Park avenues before issuing summonses charging Cody Frye, 112 W. Commerce St., Youngstown, and Vanessa Bentz, 995 Church Hill-Hubbard Road, Liberty, with criminal trespassing. The two 23-year-olds engaged in off-road traveling and ignored “no trespassing” signs on the property, a report said.
