Loyola University recognizes students

Loyola University New Orleans recognized nine students from the Diocese of Youngstown who completed master’s degrees or certificates through the Loyola New Orleans Institute for Ministry Extension (LIMEX) Program at its commencement on May 11.

Earning master degree in pastoral studies were Brenda Antenucci, parish director of religious education at Blessed Sacrament Parish in Warren, with a pastoral life and administration focus; Jocelyn Welsh, parish director of religious education and youth ministry at St. Joseph Parish in Austintown, with a youth ministry focus; Lauren DeFelice, parish director of religious education at Mary, Mother of Hope Parish in New Castle, Pa., with a pastoral life and administration focus; Sean Fyock, construction manager for Habitat for Humanity of Mahoning County, with a marketplace ministry focus; and Carol Pilz, pastoral care at Humility House in Austintown with a Christian spirituality for ministry focus.

Earning certificates in pastoral studies with a Christian spirituality for ministry focus were Deacon Ralph Chase of St. Anne Parish in Sebring, and Christine McCue, pastoral associate at St. William Parish in Champion.

Earning certificates in religious education were Beth Rado, parish minister at St. Hilary Parish in Fairlawn, and Sister Sandy Pedone, parish director of religious Education at St. Joseph Parish in Sharon, Pa.

Terry Murphy, catechist, St. Thomas Aquinas High School in Louisville, facilitated the learning group. The group met at Our Lady of the Lakes Parish, St. James Parish Hall, North Jackson, throughout the four-year course of study. The Rev. David Merzweiler, pastor of Our Lady of the Lakes, and Carol Muldowney, parish director of religious education, hosted the learning group.
