The Boardman High School band performed its spring concert May 1 in the Boardman Performing Arts Center. The concert was directed by Thomas Ruggieri, Timothy Tuite, Steven Chambers and Michael Shevock.
The concert began with a percussion ensemble performance of “Sabre Dance” by James L. Moore before going into the freshman/concert band portion of the evening. “Hail American!” by J. Richards, “Nettleton” arranged by Johnnie Vinson, “The James Bond Theme” by Monty Norman and “Disco Lives!” arranged by Johnnie Vinson were played by the freshman/concert band. Several students dressed in 1970s attire to dance while the band played “Disco Lives!”
The woodwind quintet performed “Passacaille” by Adrien Barthe before the concert transitioned to the symphonic band’s performance. The symphonic band played such songs as “Navy Hymn” by John B. Dykes, “Stevie Wonder in Concert” by John Zdechlik, “An American in Paris” by George Gershwin and more.
The spring concert ended with a performance by the wind ensemble, featuring senior Justin Randall in a solo on “Concerto for Trumpet” by Franz Joseph Haydn. Other songs played by the wind ensemble included “Arabesque” by Samual R. Hazo, “Family Guy” by Walter Murphy, “Song for Lyndsay” by Andrew Boysen and “Ride” by Samuel R. Hazo.
