Police chief recovering after being dragged by car

BEAVER MEADOWS, Pa. (AP) — The police chief of a northeastern Pennsylvania borough is lucky to have escaped with only minor injuries after being dragged by a car.

Beaver Meadows police Chief Mike Morressi says it happened Thursday while he was trying to serve warrants on the driver, 41-year-old Dean Kancir.

Police say Kancir was living illegally in a burned-out shell of a home near Hazleton, where Morressi was trying to serve a long overdue eviction notice.

Morressi said he jumped on the car’s hood to try and stop it and was dragged down Route 93.

State police say Kancir was arrested several hours later and is jailed in Carbon County Prison.

Morressi was treated at a hospital for bumps and bruises and released.
