OSHP troopers seize heroin, pills on Ohio Turnpike

AKRON — One man and two women from Ohio face felony drug charges after Ohio State Highway Patrol troopers seized two ounces of heroin, 192 oxycodone pills and one ecstasy pill, worth approximately $17,000, after a traffic stop on the Ohio Turnpike in Boston Township in Summit County.

Troopers stopped a rented 2012 Chevrolet Cruze, with Pennsylvania registration, for a marked-lanes violation, on the turnpike at 6:47 p.m. Tuesday. Upon contact with the driver, troopers detected an odor of burnt marijuana coming from the vehicle and observed in plain view raw marijuana shake on the interior floor.

Further investigation revealed that the two women were concealing the heroin and prescription pills.

The driver, Kory D. Smith, 27, and passengers, Lauren A. Luke, 25, and Brandy Lee Ross, 19, all of Steubenville, were placed in the Summit County Jail and charged with possession and trafficking in heroin, both first-degree felonies; possession and trafficking in a Schedule II substance, both second-degree felonies; and possession of ecstasy, a fifth-degree felony.

Luke and Ross were also charged with tampering with evidence, a third-degree felony.
