Restrictions at Ohio forest to protect resources

The Wayne National Forest in southeastern Ohio is putting new restrictions on activities that include camping, hunting and boating to protect the forest’s natural resources.

A spokesman says an order signed April 30 is intended to protect both the park’s natural resources and visitors.

The prohibitions affect campfires, off-highway vehicle operation, camping, hunting, boating and other activities.

Rules limit campers to staying 14 days within any 30-day period and prohibit mass camping involving more than eight people and three camping units at a site. New restrictions also apply to alcohol, drugs, public nudity and fireworks.

Violators could face heavy fines.
