“Community Connection” (7 a.m. Sunday on 21 WFMJ-TV, and 7 p.m. Tuesday on Time Warner Cable community access channel): Dr. Rickie Monroe, one of the few African-American anesthesiologists in the Valley, will join host Madonna Chism Pinkard to discuss anesthesia and how it affects the patient undergoing a surgical procedure.

Next, David Dees, Heather Mercer and Wendy Pfrenger of Kent State University Salem Campus will discuss the Rural Scholars Program and the fundraiser, the 2013 Flashdash Obstacle 5K Run.

“Increase the Peace” (6:30 p.m., MyYTV): Host Andrea Mahone will present the Mother of the Year award to Ora Barett, who will share what life in Youngstown has been like for the last 97 years. Barett was the first African-American social worker in Youngstown.
