NEOMED faculty members honored at forum

Northeast Ohio Medical University faculty members recently were honored at the annual Spring Faculty Forum, which took place in the Ralph Regula Conference and Event Center.

The recipients were selected by committees of university faculty and senior administrators.

Dr. Richard G. Barr of Campbell, professor of radiology at NEOMED, received the Outstanding Research Award.

The Outstanding Faculty Research Award recognizes distinguished research and focuses on nationally and internationally recognized excellence and productivity in research.

The recipient has contributed substantively to his field of research interest and is recognized as an outstanding researcher. Dr. Barr practices at St. Elizabeth Health Center in Youngstown.

Kenneth S. Rosenthal, professor of microbiology/immunology/biochemistry at NEOMED, was honored with the Liebelt/Wheeler Faculty Excellence Award. He lives in Akron. The Liebelt/Wheeler Award for Faculty Excellence honors a faculty member who has demonstrated exemplary performance in the areas of teaching, research and scholarly accomplishments, professional standing and service to NEOMED.

The recipient shows personal interest in students’ learning; evidence of creativity and competence in research; demonstration of exemplary patient care, clinical skills and mentoring; and administrative and committee service that promotes the educational and scholarly programs of NEOMED.

This year’s event ushered in a new award category for achievement by newer faculty members, the Junior Faculty Excellence Award.

The initial recipients of this award were Twinsburg resident Mate M. Soric, Pharm.D., assistant professor of pharmacy practice at NEOMED and internal medicine clinical pharmacist at University Hospitals Geauga Medical Center in Chardon, and Hudson resident Dr. Yanqiao Zhang, assistant professor of integrative medical sciences at NEOMED. The award honors a faculty member who has demonstrated exemplary performance and has made noteworthy contributions to the NEOMED community in teaching, research and scholarly accomplishment and service.
