Ex-school board member asleep in drive-through, charged with dui

YOUNGSTOWN

A former city school board member was charged with driving under the influence early Saturday.

Anthony Catale, 26, of Bears Den Road, is scheduled to appear Monday in Youngstown Municipal Court. He declined comment Saturday evening.

At about 3 a.m., police were called to McDonald’s on Fifth Avenue on a report of a man in the drive-through, asleep in his vehicle. Police knocked on the car windows to wake Catale and when he opened the car door, they smelled alcohol, a police report states.

Because Catale couldn’t stand without leaning on his car, officers didn’t administer field sobriety tests, the report states. He refused a breathalyzer test at the police station, it continues.

Catale served one term on Youngstown Board of Education, including two years as president. He didn’t seek re-election to the board and ran unsuccessfully for a city council seat in 2011.
