When “The Great Gatsby” opens Friday in theaters, it will be the fifth and latest movie incarnation to be adapted from F. Scott Fitzgerald’s classic 1922 novel. Here is a quick filmography:

v 1926: Herbert Brenon creates a silent movie of a stage adaptation, starring Warner Baxter, Lois Wilson, and William Powell. It is a famous example of a lost film. Reviews suggest that it may have been the most faithful adaptation of the novel, but a trailer of the film at National Archives is all that is known to exist.

v 1949: Directed by Elliott Nugent, and starring Alan Ladd, Betty Field and Shelley Winters.

v 1974: Directed by Jack Clayton, this is the most famous screen version, starring Sam Waterston as narrator Nick Carraway, with Mia Farrow as Daisy Buchanan and Robert Redford as Gatsby, with a script by Francis Ford Coppola.

v 2000: Directed by Robert Markowitz, this made-for-TV movie starred Toby Stephens, Paul Rudd and Mira Sorvino.

v 2013: Directed by Baz Luhrmann and starring Leonardo DiCaprio, Carey Mulligan and Tobey Maguire.

“Splash” (8 p.m., ABC): Did “Splash” make much of one? Tonight, the strange celebrity diving competition comes to an end, but we’ll continue to wonder how it ever got on the air in the first place.

“Hart Of Dixie” (8 p.m., CW): Season 2 ends tonight.

“New Girl” (9 p.m., Fox): Rob Reiner returns as Jess’ dad.

“Golden Boy” (10 p.m., CBS): Diaco feels bad about putting his father in a nursing home, even though his father named him “Diaco.”
