Robbers get six-year and four-year prison terms

Two robbers were sentenced to multiyear prison terms by Judge R. Scott Krichbaum of Mahoning County Common Pleas Court after they pleaded guilty Monday to crimes committed in March.

After pleading guilty to aggravated robbery and felonious assault with a firearm specification, Ramon Cooper, 22, of Manchester Avenue, who carried a pistol, drew a six-year prison term.

After pleading guilty to aggravated robbery and felonious assault, with the gun specification dropped by the prosecution, Eric Robbins, 21, of Market Street, drew a four-year prison term.

Still to be sentenced in this case is a third defendant, Jamalia C. Abrams, 22, of Parkwood Avenue, who pleaded guilty to the same charges as Robbins, also with the prosecution dropping the gun specification. Abrams will be sentenced at 9 a.m. July 2.

The male victim, a friend of Abrams, was pistol-whipped in Abrams’ apartment and robbed of between $20 and $30 in cash at gunpoint March 23, said Nicholas Brevetta, an assistant county prosecutor. Nobody was shot during the robbery, Brevetta said.

Abrams told prosecutors Cooper was armed, but neither she, nor Robbins, was armed.

The sentences for Cooper and Robbins cannot be appealed because they were agreed to by the prosecution and defense and adopted by the judge.

Cooper and Robbins entered their guilty pleas on the day their jury trial had been scheduled to begin.
