Helen Mauch named Woman of the Year


YOUNGSTOWN

Helen Eileen Mauch was recently honored as Woman of the Year by the Youngstown Saxon Club.

She was born in 1942 in Youngstown, a daughter of Patrick and Helen Casey.

She is a graduate of East High School and worked at the downtown Strouss Hirshberg store. She later retired from Austintown Hills Department Store after working 25 years. She is a helper at the E.M.F. Outreach Center Thrift Store

Mauch married her husband, Jim, in May 1963 at Woodland Avenue Lutheran Church. They are members of Zion Lutheran Church in Cornersburg.

They raised three sons, Ron, Ed and Tom. Ed died in an automobile accident 25 years ago. They also have four grandchildren, Trevor, Edward, Paige and Casey.

She joined Saxon Branch 22 in 1984 and has been a member of the ladies and couples bocce leagues since they were started. She also bowled in the ATS Traveling League. She served as hostess and cashier for Friday night fish dinners for several years.

Mauch is currently a Branch 22 officer and has served on Saxon Club committees for the pork dinners, basket auctions, flea markets, New Year’s Eve, President’s Ball and bocce banquets.

Three years ago she was presented the ATS Honor Pin by the ATS National President Tom Manning.
