The Boardman library offered children a chance to learn and play on its Kinect Feb. 18 during Party Like a President and Feb. 19 during a special Kinect story time for younger ages.
At the Party Like a President event, parents and children of all ages put their dance skills to the test by playing one of the songs on Just Dance 3. Children danced to familiar tunes like music from “The Nightmare Before Christmas” and “Party Rock Anthem” by LMFAO while parents got their groove on to disco songs like “Boogie Wonderland” by Earth, Wind and Fire.
At the story time, children had the chance to play games like Kinectimals, which allows players to pick an exotic animal, like a bear, tiger, or panda, and play and care for it like one would their pet. The game also uses the animal to teach children better motor development by teaching the animals tricks and helping them cross obstacles.
“It was fun to dance and play using the Kinect,” said Amira Welch, a child who attended the Party Like a President event. “My favorite song to dance to is ‘Everybody Dance Now’ because it’s fun and it keeps you moving. I play Just Dance a lot at home.”
