Mahoning County health board signs pact to inspect landfills
YOUNGSTOWN — The Mahoning County District Board of Health unanimously approved a contract with the county’s Solid Waste Management District to provide inspections of active and closed landfills and other solid and infectious waste activities.
For providing services, which include collecting and analyzing samples from public and private wells on lands within a one-mile radius of the landfills, the county health board will receive $390,000 from the MCSWD for this year and 2014.
According to the contract, should landfill volumes increase or decrease more than 20 percent during a 12-month period, however, then the amount and scope of duties of the health board may be adjusted by the MCSWD board.
