Kindergartners at Lloyd Elementary school celebrated Dr. Seuss with their grandparents and other special people on March 22. Students from Robin Speece, Stephanie Cuddy and Joanie White’s classes did a variety of Dr.Seuss-related activities.
Students listened to a reading of “ Green Eggs and Ham,” worked on word puzzles, visited the Magnificent Math station and measured and made a Cat in the Hat’s hat, created a Green Eggs and Ham pictured frame, enjoyed a snack and even got a special visit from the Cat in the Hat himself.
The teachers at Lloyd try to introduce their students to different authors and reinforce rhyming, and Dr. Seuss does just that.
Robin Speece said the main goal of Dr. Seuss Day is to promote reading and math with someone special.
Students got a chance to show off their reading skills.
“The kids get so excited about reading and this is one more event to get them excited,” said White. Dr. Seuss Day, which coincides with Grandparent’s Day, is a chance to show grandparents how different kindergarten is from when they were in school. It is also a chance for the children to have a fun afternoon with their grandparents and do different activities.
“Grandparents have so much wisdom and it’s important for our students to gain that wisdom,” said Speece.
