Night at the Races set
The fifth annual Night at the Races will be April 13 at St. Charles Catholic Church. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. and races start at 7:30 p.m. Admission is free. The event will include a 50/50 raffle, Chinese auction, and refreshments. For adults 21 and older. Sponsored by Msgr. John J. Lettau Assembly No. 2596.
Benefit golf outing to be July 20
The eighth annual sunshine benefit golf outing will be held on July 20 at Lakeside Golf Course. Registration begins at 7 a.m. and shotgun start at 9 a.m. The event will be a three-person scramble. The cost is $225 per team and includes a T-shirt, continental breakfast, lunch, drinks and a steak dinner to follow at Ball Busters Sports Bar.

Benefit cornhole tournament set
Ball Busters Sports Bar and Grill, 3661 Mahoning Ave., will host a cornhole tournament on July 21. Registration begins at 2 p.m. and first bag toss is at 3 p.m. The cost is $40 per team and includes a hot dog lunch. The tournament will include double elimination, 50/50 and a raffle. Bethel Lutheran Church, 425 Crestview Dr., will be hosting a Swiss steak dinner on April 13 from 5 to 7 p.m. Cost will be $10 for adults and $4 for children under 12. Carry-outs are available. Tickets are available at the door or by calling the church office at 330-758-5745. All proceeds go to the Bethel Brotherhood and will be used for outreach and upkeep of the church.
Boardman resident named to Dean’ list
Doriyon Glass was named to the Dean’s list at Gannon University for the fall 2012 semester. Full-time undergraduate students with a grade point average of 3.5 or better qualify for this list.
Smart Money for 4s and 5s
The Boardman library will host Smart Money: Fun Times for 4s and 5s on April 23 at 10 a.m. The program will include developmentally-appropriate stories and activities that will help your child (ages 4-5) learn about money. Each child will receive a piggy bank. Children must be accompanied by an adult.
Sensory story time set
Join the Boardman library for a family story time for children of all ages with a sensory focus on April 27 at 2 p.m. This program is designed for children with different needs, including those with autism, speech/language delays, cognitive impairments, AD/HD and other special needs and challenges. The Friends of the Boardman Library will host their program “Nothing Could Be Finer,” featuring Dining Car China with John Rettig on April 8 at 10 a.m.
Jigsaw puzzle swap at library
If you are done with your jigsaw puzzle and want to try another, join other jigsaw enthusiasts and swap puzzles at the Boardman library on April 10 at 5 p.m. This event is sponsored by the Friends of PLYMC.

The Boardman library will host a blood pressure screening on Monday from 12:30 to 3 p.m. Sponsored by the Mahoning Chapter of American Red Cross.
Come to the library’s Castaway Carnival
The Boardman library will host a Castaway Carnival on April 3 at 10 a.m. Children of all ages are invited to listen to stories, play carnival games and bingo. Preschoolers must attend with an adult.
Teen board to meet April 3
Check out the monthly TAB (Teen Advisory Board) meeting April 3 at 6:30 p.m. They meet the first Wednesday of the month at the Boardman library. Newcomers are always welcome. For teens in grades 7-12.

Seniors and teens are invited to play and learn chess at the Boardman library on April 7 at 1:30 p.m.
Play Angry Birds
Children in grades K-6 are invited to help the Angry Birds defeat the bad piggies on Tuesday at 2 p.m. The game will be played on the computer and in real life. A craft will also be made to take home.

Families are invited to stump the librarian on April 20 at 11 a.m. and 3 p.m. at the Boardman library Ask the librarians questions and if they can’t find the answer you receive a prize.
Celebrate National Library Week
The Boardman library will be celebrating National Library Week on April 20. The event will include library and website tours, eReader help, mini-story times , a children’s craft and more throughout the day. For all ages.

Spaghetti dinner set April 7
The Youngstown Shrine Club will host a spaghetti dinner on April 7 from 11:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the club’s main hall, 1735 South Range Road (Route 165) in North Lima. The cost is $7 for adults, $3.50 for children ages 6-12 and children under 6 eat free. Dinner includes spaghetti and meatballs, salad, rolls, dessert and beverages.
ABWA to host Chinese auction
The Mill Creek Chapter of American Business Women’s Association will host its annual Chinese auction on April 28 at the Ursuline Center, 4300 Shields Road, from 12:30 to 5 p.m. Profits from this event go into the scholarship/education fund for the four students the chapter is supporting this year in college.
ABWA meeting set in Canfield
The Mill Creek Chapter of American Business Women’s Association will hold its spring enrollment event at A La Cart in Canfield on April 9 beginning with a networking session at 6 p.m. The speaker for the evening will be attorney William Kalasky, speaking on estate planning. The menu will be roast pork, southern-baked chicken, eggplant parmesan, redskin mashed potatoes with garlic, chives and sour cream, buttered cord, cole slaw, tomato, pepper and onion salad, relish trays, rolls and butter, coffee and tea and pretzel dessert. The cost is $18.50.

Church to sell ham loaves
Boardman United Methodist Church, 6809 Market Street, will sell ham loaves on April 16 from noon until sold out. The loaves will only be sold in packages of six for $12. There will be no pre-orders.
Easter egg hunt set
Greater Life Church will host their Easter extravaganza today from 1 to 4 p.m. at Boardman Park in the Maag Park area. The event will include an Easter egg hunt, bounce houses, live music, food and giveaways.
Benefit wine tasting April 20
The Youngstown Country Club will host a wine tasting on April 20 from 7 to 9 p.m. The gala event will pair complimentary hors d’oeuvres with the exquisite wines that have been selected for tasting, including some premier local winemakers. The event will benefit the Mahoning County DD Special Olympics Program. Tickets are $50 per person, which includes a charitable tax deduction of $25. Registration open for Women’s Heart Day
Registration for the 10th annual Woman’s Heart Day, a free health and wellness extravaganza provided by Humility of Mary Health Partners, opens Monday.
Provided as a service to the community, Woman’s Heart Day will take place on May 9 from 6:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Covelli Centre.
This annual event features free health screenings, fitness demonstrations, educational presentations on a variety of women’s health issues, cooking demonstrations, spa services, refreshments and giveaways.
Among the health screenings offered this year are bone density, lipid panel (cholesterol) and A1c testing, blood pressure readings, vision screenings, stroke risk and skin cancer risk assessments.
Registration is required and appointments for bone density, lipid panel and A1c testing are limited.

Boardman-based travel agency VTI American Express Travel has launched its new website, allowing leisure and business customers a less stressful means of making travel arrangements.

Pink Ribbon Golf Classic set
The annual Pink Ribbon Golf Classic will be at Squaw Creek at Avalon Golf and Country Club on July 15. All proceeds from this event will go directly to the American Cancer Society. Special Olympics fundraiser set
A Special Olympics fundraiser will be on April 6 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Bev Road MASCO Workshop, 825 Bev Road, Boardman. More than 800 items will be available for purchase at the Shop-Till-You-Drop sale benefitting the Mahoning County DD Special Olympics. The sale will feature YSU, Steelers, Browns and Cleveland Indians sports items along with jewelry, purses, toys, books and home d cor.
The event will also include 100 gift baskets with items such as a Colt McCoy autographed football, overnight stay at Mountaineer Resort and Casino, Kindle, cameras, and a year of skating at the Skate Zone. There will also be a gift card raffle valued at $500. One person will win gift cards to local restaurants, bakeries, retail stores, golf items, salons and more.

Community group calls for scholarship applicants
The Boardman Community Foundation (BCF), a component fund of the Community Foundation of the Mahoning Valley, is asking for applications to be submitted for the 2013 scholarship selection process. The fund is offering two $1,750 scholarships for students who are high school seniors and Boardman residents. Print the application for the scholarship from the foundation’s website at www.cfmv.org, or contact the foundation at 330-743-5555. The deadline for applying is March 31. Students selected will be notified in April.
Library closed for Easter
All branches of the Public Library of Youngstown and Mahoning County will be closed today and tomorrow for Easter.
