Pig Iron Press plans event to raise funds

Staff report

Youngstown

Pig Iron Press will have a “We’re Not Moving Sale” April 6, from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m., to raise funds for renovation of its building at 26 N. Phelps St., downtown.

It will be the latest in a series of fundraisers for the 40-year-old independent publishing company owned by Jim Villani. The headquarters building was sold at sheriff’s sale earlier this month, but Villani was able to nullify the sale by paying off the tax lien. Most of the money was raised at the fundraisers.

The April 6 sale will celebrate the elimination of the lien. It will include a “buy one item, get second item of lesser value free” policy.

A capital campaign fund donation of $5 is asked to attend the sale. Refreshments will be provided.

The Save Pig Iron Press Capital Fundraising Campaign was launched Feb. 2 and has raised $6,807 toward a goal of $15,000. The drive closes Sept. 30.

Those who can’t attend the event can send donations to Pig Iron Press, P.O. Box 237, Youngstown, OH 44501. Donations also can be made in person at Pig Iron. Make checks payable to Save Pig Iron Press.

Renovations planned for the 1910 building include painting walls, installing new windows and other repairs.
