Wellsville man gets 6 years for knife robbery

LISBON

A Wellsville man has been sentenced to six years in prison for robbing at knifepoint a BP Station and McGraw’s Drive Thru, both in Wellsville, last October.

Lester D. Russell, 31, of Commerce Street, drew the sentence Tuesday from Judge Scott A. Washam of Columbiana County Common Pleas Court. The prosecution had recommended a 15-year prison term for Russell, who was convicted by a jury of two counts of aggravated robbery.

Russell got $460 from the gas station Oct. 18, but he got nothing from the drive-through Oct. 20, after the clerk wrestled him out of the office and ejected him from the business, the county prosecutor’s office said.
