Student art exhibit to open at McDonough

The McDonough Museum of Art at Youngstown State University will open its 77th annual Juried Student Art Exhibition on Friday with a free reception at 6 p.m. that will include the awards presentation.

The exhibition will run through April 12.

The exhibition features works by students enrolled in art and design programs at YSU.

Award categories are photography, painting, sculpture, digital media, graphic design, interactive design and packaging. The winners receive cash and gift certificates.

This year’s jurors are Barry Anderson, Greg Coll and Doris Short.

Anderson is an associate professor at the University of Missouri-Kansas City and teaches courses in motion design, video art, portfolio development and professional practices.

Short is a creative director with more than 20 years’ experience in the creative field, including brand development and strategies for several large agencies. She is an advertising and graphic design instructor at the Art Institute of Pittsburgh and Robert Morris University.

Coll, of Greg Coll Design, has created strategies to help launch and evolve numerous national and global brands.

Admission to the McDonough, 525 Wick Ave., is free. Hours are 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday. For information, call 330-941-1400.
