Investigators found bomb-making materials and pants that appeared to have blood on them in the car of a man suspected of killing Colorado’s prisons chief, according to documents made public Tuesday.

Authorities also found maps, handwritten directions and documents from the Department of Corrections in Evan Spencer Ebel’s black Cadillac. Also found were a Domino’s Pizza worker’s shirt and visor, and a pizza carrier bag along with zip ties and duct tape.

Ebel was killed in a shootout with Texas authorities last week after a high-speed chase. Authorities in Decatur, where Ebel’s car crashed before the shoot-out, sent the items to Colorado agencies investigating the death of corrections chief Tom Clements and the slaying of a pizza deliveryman whose body was found two days before Clements was killed.

Obama signs bill, avoids shutdown

President Barack Obama has signed a stopgap spending bill to keep the government running through the end of September.

The measure leaves in place $85 billion in automatic budget cuts known as the sequester. But it takes steps to ease the impact of the cuts to food inspection and college assistance for active duty military personnel.

The House and Senate passed the spending bill last week. Without it, the government would have run out of money today to keep operating.

Police: Boy, 4, found with deceased mom

Police in northern New Jersey found an emaciated 4-year-old boy in an apartment Tuesday with the body of his mother, who appeared to have been dead about five days.

The boy told police he tried to get food from the refrigerator but couldn’t open the door, Union Police Director Daniel Zieser said. He also had rubbed lotion on his mother in an attempt to help her, leaving behind his handprints, Zieser said.

The discovery was made Tuesday after a maintenance worker reported a bad odor coming from the apartment.

Man wins $8K in ‘Small World’ suit

An attorney says a disabled man was awarded $8,000 by Disneyland after the “It’s A Small World” ride broke, stranding him for a half-hour while the theme song played continuously. Lawyer David Geffen says Jose Martinez didn’t medically stabilize for three hours after the ride broke down in 2009.

Disneyland spokeswoman Suzi Brown said the Anaheim theme park believes it gave appropriate assistance during the incident, and is disappointed that the court did not fully agree.

Geffen says Martinez uses a wheelchair, suffers from panic attacks and high blood pressure, which was aggravated by a need to urinate.

Geffen says half the award ordered Friday is for pain and suffering, and the rest is for disability law violations.

Report: 2011 quake likely was man-made

An unusual and widely felt 5.6-magnitude quake in Oklahoma in 2011 was probably caused when oil-drilling waste was pushed deep underground, university and federal scientists concluded. That would make it the most powerful quake to be blamed on deep injections of wastewater, according to a study published Tuesday by the journal Geology. The waste was from traditional drilling, not from the hydraulic-fracturing technique, or fracking.
