The final steel beam was placed in a “topping-off” ceremony Monday of the second seven-story inpatient tower at the Boardman hospital.
Tower facts:
Total cost of the 165,000-square-foot building is about $103 million.
Dollars spent with woman- and minority-owned businesses, $15,900,000.
The new tower expands the number of operating rooms from six to 10 at St. Elizabeth Boardman.
New beds include: 72 medical surgical/telemetry; six intensive care; 12 labor and delivery; 32 postpartum; 24-bed neonatal intensive care unit operated by Akron Children’s Hospital.
Phase I construction, scheduled to be completed early in the second quarter of 2014, will enable opening four additional operating rooms; relocate obstetrics, maternity, nursery and Akron Children’s Hospital Neonatal Intensive Care Unit from St. Elizabeth Youngstown Health Center.
Phase II construction scheduled for completion in December 2014.
Floors 4 through 7 will be established as a mix of medical-surgical and telemetry and will be opened in a phased approach: Floor 5, January 2015; Floor 6, January 2016; Floor 7, January 2017.
