Ryan leads delegation to Germany and talks about energy

U.S. Rep. Tim Ryan of Niles, D-13th, spoke today with German Chancellor Angela Merkel in Germany about that country purchasing liquefied natural gas from the United States.

Ryan is leading a congressional delegation on a trip to Germany. The group met with the chancellor as well as members of the German Bundestag, the country’s parliament, as well as German business officials. Ryan said he plans to host a German delegation to Ohio next year.

“I believe [Merkel] is very interested in increasing competition for natural gas and buying it from a strong strategic ally that shares their values, especially an appreciation for the rule of law,” he said. “If we play our cards properly, the natural gas boom in our region is an opportunity to both sell this resource abroad and create jobs at home.”
