Event to focus on disaster preparation

NILES

The American Red Cross of the Mahoning Valley has partnered with Dominion East Ohio for a “Preparedness Day” on April 13 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Eastwood Mall.

The goal of the event is to teach participants the importance of disaster preparedness.

Throughout the day, participants will be given the opportunity to take a pre-test and post-test to determine their safety and preparedness knowledge.

The five-minute test and follow-up will be completed by trained Red Cross and Dominion volunteers.

For those who take both parts of the test, they will receive a “safety backpack” sponsored by Dominion East Ohio. The backpack will be filled with safety supplies. For more information, visit www.redcross.org/ oh/mahoningvalley.

Charitable donations from credit union

WARREN

The Associated School Employees Credit Union has donated more than $2,100 to local charitable organizations.

Employees at the credit union participated in a yearlong “Casual for a Cause” program. Each employee dressed casually in exchange for a charitable donation.

Those employees chose which organizations would receive the funds. Among them were Someplace Safe, St. Jude Children’s Hospital, Bella Women’s Center and Second Harvest Food Bank.
