Andrew Baltes, a North Jackson farmer, was chosen a national yield winner in Asgrow brand’s 2012 inaugural Yield Chasers Contest. Baltes is recognized for being one of the top-yielding competitors in the nation. He yielded an impressive 88 bushels per acre of Asgrow-brand soybeans.

Kristin Woods, of Photography by Kristin in Bristolville, recently won a silver medal at the Professional Photographers of America’s International Photographic Competition. Woods, one of 60 silver medalists had one of her four “merited images” entered into the PPA collection.

Oaks Welding Company received the Columbiana County Chamber of Commerce’s Business of the Month Award. Oaks was submitted for consideration due to its involvement in the community. The company has been in business for more than 50 years.

Banking & finance

Ray Calcagni has been hired by the Home Federal Savings and Loan Association of Niles. He arrives at the bank with 26 years of lending experience, mostly in commercial lending. He is graduate of Youngstown State University, and lives in Poland with his family.

Consumers National Bank hired Michele Harris as underwriting manager in the mortgage division of the bank’s Jackson- Beldent office.

Harris will underwrite mortgage loans for portfolio and for sale in the secondary market, establish investor relationships and provide local decision making on the loans that Consumers makes in all its markets.

ACCOUNTING

FirstEnergy Corp. has named Kevin R. Burgess as executive director of internal auditing. Burgess, who was formerly executive director of finance at FirstEnergy Solutions, has a bachelor’s degree from Hendrix College in Conway, Ark., and a master’s degree from Ohio State University.

Cabris Walker, an accounting firm and health-care services group in New Castle, Pa., has hired Linda Lewis as director of clinical consulting. She has 16 years of experience in the industry. Lewis has degrees in both nursing and business management, and has earned professional certification as a nursing home administrator from the American College of Health Care Administrators.

Klacik Real Estate has hired Michelle Overly as a new agent. Overly has always had in interest in real estate and she joins the brokerage from Transit Services Inc., where she was serving schools throughout Mahoning and Trumbull counties. She recently completed real-estate training at ETI.
