Youngstown

The 75th Area Artists Annual opens today at The Butler Institute of American Art and runs through April 7.

The popular exhibition is in the Mac- Intosh and Hynes-Finnegan Galleries, located on the museum’s second level. Works by artists in all media who live in Mahoning, Trumbull and Columbiana counties in Ohio, as well as Mercer and Lawrence counties in Pennsylvania, are included in this juried show.

Exhibition juror was Stephanie Smith, a professor of art history at Youngstown State University.

Smith chose 89 pieces by 72 artists from a total number of 305 entries submitted by 170 artists. Awards were given to 22 artists.

The winners of the top prizes are: Allan Charles Orr of Youngstown, Best in Show; Christopher Leeper of Canfield, First Prize; Richard Fisher of Leetonia, Second Prize; Rabecca Signoriello of New Castle, Third Prize; Richard Mitchell of East Palestine, Juror’s Special Mention; and James O’Malley of Struthers, Juror’s Special Mention.

Honorable Mentions were awarded to Michael Ahren, Youngstown; Mary Lou Alexander, Hubbard; Corinne Bishara Bako, Boardman; John Buchenic, Hubbard; Sean Butler, Canfield; William Danielson, Youngstown; Frank D’Isa, Youngstown; Mary Kay D’Isa, Youngstown; Carol Gallo, Girard; Bryce Herrington, Hermitage, Pa.; Tazim Jaffer, Girard; Carl Leet, Hubbard; Ann Miller, Warren; Michelle Miller, Sharon, Pa.; Gary Taneri, Warren; and Marianne Whitehouse, Youngstown.
