Holy Week events set

Prince of Peace Evangelical Luther Church in Poland will hold the following Holy Week worship services:

March 24: Palm Sunday/ Passion of our Lord at 10 a.m. Children’s Easter Egg hunt after worship

March 28: Maundy Thursday Worship at 7 p.m.

March 29: Good Friday Tenebrae Worship at 7 p.m.

March 30: Easter Vigil at 7p.m.

March 31: Easter Sunday Worship 10 a.m. (no Sunday School)

Benefit wine tasting April 20

The Youngstown Country Club will host a wine tasting on April 20 from 7 to 9 p.m.

The gala event will pair complimentary hors d’oeuvres with the exquisite wines that have been selected for tasting, including some premier local winemakers.

The event will benefit the Mahoning County DD Special Olympics Program. Tickets are $50 per person, which includes a charitable tax deduction of $25. To reserve tickets, call the Youngstown Country Club at 330 759 1040, ext. 151.

Audubon Society meeting set

Audubon Society/Mahoning Valley invites the public to “Wildlife of the Mahoning Valley” on Tuesday at 7 p.m. at Mill Creek MetroParks Farm.

Jim Kerr, curator of the Beaver Creek Wildlife Education Center, will talk about local species of mammals, birds and reptiles. The Mill Creek MetroParks Farm is on Route 46 in Canfield.

VTI Travel launches new website

Boardman-based travel agency VTI American Express Travel has launched its new website, allowing leisure and business customers a less stressful means of making travel arrangements.

Customers can explore a variety of travel options and packages and when they are ready to book they can do so by calling or doing it through the site. The new web address is www.VacationVTI.com.

MCCTC accepting applications

Registration is now open for 2013-2014 academic year at the Mahoning County Career and Technical Center. Applications for enrollment are available online at www.mahoningctc.com or by calling the high school office at 330-729-4000.

Senior citizens unite

The Holy Family Senior Citizens Social Club, a group for seniors age 55 and over, meets the third Monday of each month from 11:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. The meetings include a brief meeting, lunch, raffle, bingo and card games, and take place at Holy Family Parish Hall, 2729 Center Road. Easter egg hunt set

The Poland Junior Women’s Club will host an Easter egg hunt today at 1 p.m. at Poland Town Hall Gazebo and Grounds. For children through fourth grade.

Registration open for Women’s Heart Day

Registration for the 10th annual Woman’s Heart Day, a free health and wellness extravaganza provided by Humility of Mary Health Partners, opens April 1.

Provided as a service to the community, Woman’s Heart Day will take place on May 9 from 6:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Covelli Centre. This annual event features free health screenings, fitness demonstrations, educational presentations on a variety of women’s health issues, cooking demonstrations, spa services, refreshments and giveaways.

Among the health screenings offered this year are bone density, lipid panel (cholesterol) and A1c testing, blood pressure readings, vision screenings, stroke risk and skin cancer risk assessments.

Registration is required and appointments for bone density, lipid panel and A1c testing are limited.

Screen your blood pressure

The Boardman library will host a blood pressure screening by the Mahoning Chapter of the American Red Cross on Tuesday from 1 to 4 p.m.

Camera Club hosts meetings

The Youngstown Camera Club hosts its club meetings the first and third Mondays of every month at 7:30 p.m. The meetings are at Christ’s Church, 7155 Glenwood Ave. Anyone interest in digital photography is welcome. For more information, visit http://ycc.photoforge.org.

Pink Ribbon Golf Classic set

The annual Pink Ribbon Golf Classic will be at Squaw Creek at Avalon Golf and Country Club on July 15. All proceeds from this event will go directly to the American Cancer Society. Eat with the Easter bunny

Tickets are now on sale for Dinner with the Easter Bunny on Wednesday and Thursday from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at the Lariccia Family Community Center in Boardman Park. Tickets can be purchased at the park office from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday. Tickets are $6 for Boardman residents and $7 for non-residents. Children under 18 months are admitted free. Cost includes dinner, arts and crafts, and a family photo with the Easter Bunny.

Easter egg hunt today

The free Easter Egg and Goodie Bag Hunt at Boardman Park is today. The event will be for children 8 and under. Bring your baskets and arrive early. Dress for the weather. Times are:

10 a.m. — for ages 2 and under at the Bocce Court

10:15 a.m. — for ages 3-4 at the Masters Pavilion

10:30 a.m. — for ages 5-8 at the Baseball field

The Poland library will host Pajama Jam: Sleepy-Time Fun for the Family on Monday at 6:30 p.m. Put on your PJs, bring out the whole family and come for stories and more fun.

Color away at the library

Stop in the Poland Library or visit our website through tomorrow to receive a St. Patrick’s Day coloring sheet. Return the completed coloring sheet or any St. Patrick’s Day art you have created to the Poland Library and receive a glow-in-the-dark bracelet. Look for your art to be displayed in the Poland Library. For children of all ages.

Local preschool offers new hours, classes

Poland Presbyterian Church Preschool and Daycare offers services for children ages 2 1/2 years to kindergarten. Preschool is available for younger children from 9 a.m. until noon and for older Pre-K children from 9 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Poland Presbyterian is now offering “home away from home” before preschool and after preschool hours. Give blood at the library

The Poland library will host a blood drive on Thursday from 12:30 to 6:30 p.m. for the Mahoning Chapter of the American Red Cross. Donations will serve the needs of St. Elizabeth Hospital.

Babies ages 6 to 23 months can join the Poland library for developmentally-appropriate books, songs, rhymes, finger plays and other activities that will help your child become a successful reader every Wednesday in March at 10 a.m. Children must be accompanied by an adult.

Library closed March 30-31

All branches of the Public Library of Youngstown and Mahoning County will be closed on March 30 and 31 for Easter.

Kick off Relay for Life

The Poland Relay for Life will host its kick-off open house on Thursday at the Poland Memorial Baptist Church, 56 Water St. from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. The public and all teams are encouraged to attend. The open house will celebrate the 100th birthday of the American Cancer Society and will offer free refreshments, a 50/50 raffle, face painting and a variety of items for sale.

All proceeds will be donated to the Poland Relay for Life.
