Bantam hockey team captures championships

Neighbors | Submitted..The Youngstown Phantom Bantam hockey team captured both the season and playoff championships in the 2012-2013 Pittsburgh Amateur Hockey League (PAHL). The Youngstown Phantom Bantam hockey team captured both the season and playoff championships in the 2012-2013 Pittsburgh Amateur Hockey League (PAHL) Bantam A Major Gold Division.

Their 14-3-3 made them division champions out of 12 teams from the Pittsburgh area. The division playoffs were held in New Kensington, Pa., March 1-2 at the Valley Sports Complex. The Phantom Bantams defeated the Armstrong Arrows in the semifinals and the Arctic Foxes, 4-1 in the championship game.

The team is made up of 13 and 14 year-olds from Canfield, Boardman, Poland, Austintown, Warren and Columbiana. The Phantoms took championships in three other tournaments this season, including the second annual Phantom Phright Phest held at the Ice Zone in Boardman, the Mount Lebanon Hockey Association Classic, in the A Major Black division and the Charlie Hogan Memorial Hockey tournament in Indiana, Pa.

They are coached by Jim Hepola, Steph Price and Grant Williams and their home ice is the Ice Zone in Boardman.
