The U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission’s mobile outreach center will visit the Youngstown unit of the NAACP from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Friday to accept complaints of employment discrimination based on race, religion, sex, national origin, age (40 and older), disability or retaliation.

The EEOC considers retaliation the firing of a worker who complained about job discrimination, gave evidence in a job- discrimination matter or filed a charge of job discrimination with the commission. The local unit of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People is in Suite 721 in the former PNC Bank Building at Wick Avenue and Commerce Street, downtown Youngstown.

Maple syrup event planned in Pa.

SLIPPERY ROCK, PA.

Jennings Environmental Education Center, 2951 Prospect Road, will explore the process of making maple syrup during a free event at 2 p.m. Sunday. Registration is not required, but guests are urged to come early to reserve a seat.

Guests will learn each step of the process, from the collection of maple sap to the completed bottle of syrup, how a maple tree functions and the benefits of the perennial giants. A vendor will be on hand to offer local maple products.

CityScape meeting

YOUNGSTOWN

Youngstown CityScape discusses its annual Streetscape beautification project at an 8 a.m. Friday event at Fellows Riverside Gardens’ D.D. and Velma Davis Center in Mill Creek MetroParks, 123 McKinley Ave.

The organization will discuss fundraising efforts and the annual planting and beautification project taking place June 1. Streetscape concentrates its efforts on the city’s downtown and gateways.

Drug raid

Law-enforcement officials arrested three Youngstown residents Tuesday after raiding an apartment for drugs.

According to the Columbiana County Drug Task force, officers served a search warrant at the 400 block of Continental Drive.

They recovered crack cocaine, drug paraphernalia and more than $2,200 in cash. Police arrested Marvin L. Gidney II, of Hillman Street, and Charles Pete, of Indianola Avenue. Gidney had a warrant in Youngstown for trafficking heroin and cocaine, while Pete had a warrant in the Columbiana County Sheriff’s Office for failure to appear.

A Youngstown juvenile on an outstanding warrant was also arrested. The task force said it still is investigating, and more charges are pending.
