Area doctor sentenced to probation

A chiropractor who lives in Poland with an office in Boardman will spend the next two years on probation with 60 days of that on electronically monitored house arrest for attempted theft and attempted insurance fraud.
Dr. David P. Esarco, 52, who lives on Shady Glen Trail, was initially charged with theft, insurance fraud and tampering with records when arrested in July. He has been free on a personal-recognizance bond.
The theft and fraud charges were amended and the tampering charge dismissed in a plea agreement with prosecutors. Dr. Esarco appeared before Judge James C. Evans of Mahoning County Common Pleas Court on Wednesday for sentencing on the amended charges.
Atty. Robert Shaker, representing the chiropractor, said his client has paid back all the money taken as demanded by the plea agreement.
“Dr. Esarco has been part of this community his whole life, and I know he is very remorseful for the way his business practices were conducted,” Shaker said.
Dr. Esarco apologized to the court and the community before the judge handed down the sentence.
“I am deeply sorry for all that has happened. It has been a long road. ... I take full responsibility, and I am sorry,” he said.
Prosecutors and police contend Dr. Esarco stole somewhere between $5,000 and $100,000 from six insurance companies between July 2004 and May 2011.
Ohio State Chiropractic Board records show Dr. Esarco first was licensed as a chiropractic physician in February 1987 and has an active professional license that expires March 31, 2014.
