Canceled after rant

CHICAGO

A May 5 performance by singer Michelle Shocked in Evanston, Ill., has been canceled after reports of her anti-gay rant from a San Francisco stage Sunday.

“After speaking with the promoter, ... it’s clear that this is no longer a show we’re willing to put our nameSFlbon,” the club, SPACE, said.

Reports say Shocked, a born-again Christian, railed against gay marriage and told the crowd, “You can go on Twitter and say, ‘Michelle Shocked says God hates [anti-gay slur]’.’” The Twittersphere reacted.

Suit against Dr. Oz

NEW YORK

A New Jersey man said an insomnia cure promoted on “The Dr. Oz Show” left third-degree burns on his feet. Frank Dietl of Southampton, N.J., filed a suit in Manhattan state Supreme Court.

The Daily News says Dietl was confined to his bed for weeks after using the “knap-sack heated rice footsie,” which was promoted April 17, 2012.

Dr. Oz recommended filling a pair of socks with uncooked rice and warming them up in a microwave oven and putting them on.

Dr. Oz said using them forSFlb20 minutes promotes sleep.

Iconic Princess Di dresses fetch $1.2M

LONDON

A collection of some of Princess Diana’s most memorable evening gowns has fetched more than $1.2 million at an auction.

Kerry Taylor Auctions says the highlight, a velvet navy gown Diana wore in 1985 to a White House dinner, where she danced with John Travolta, sold for 240,000 pounds.
