McDONALD

The McDonald school board Monday approved new three-year contract for Roosevelt Elementary School principal David Vecchione.

The board approved a contract for a salary of $68,842 a year for three years for Vecchione, who became principal of the school in August 2010 under a prior three-year contract for the same salary.

Vecchione is eligible, however, for the board to match as much as $2,000 for his retirement fund a year, school Treasurer Bill Johnson said.

The board also officially hired Chris Rupe as assistant junior-high boy’s track coach under a certified contract to pay $1,843 for the 2012-13 school year. Rupe had been working as a volunteer coach.

Johnson said the board considers the positions filled by Rupe to be “pretty important” since there are 40 to 50 students who come out for track every year.

The position was dropped to volunteer when the district was in fiscal emergency.

The board also accepted donations of $500 from the McDonald Sideliners for the Coach’s Clinic and $5,000 for the football program from the Cherotti Family.
