Poland BOE appoints Janofa new chief of schools

The Poland Board of Education has appointed David Janofa as the district’s next superintendent, effective Aug. 1.
During a special meeting Tuesday, the board gave a three-year contract to Janofa, who most recently had served seven years as superintendent of the Sandy Valley School District, which encompasses Stark, Carroll and Tuscarawas counties.
Janofa replaces former Superintendent Robert Zorn. After Zorn’s resignation, Daniel Dailey was appointed interim superintendent.
Janofa’s salary will be $104,000 for the first year, with his second- and third-year salaries to be set by the board, noted Beau Weaver, board president.
Janofa, a 1983 Salem High School graduate, earned his bachelor’s degree in education in 1988 from Youngstown State University, where he played defensive end for the Penguins football team.
He also was the business manager for the Marlington School District near Alliance before serving three years as Marlington High School’s principal.
Janofa said he had no short-term plans for the district, which received a rating of excellent with distinction on the latest state report card.
His main goals include getting more acquainted with the district and closely collaborating with school officials. He praised what he sees as a high level of passion for the schools.
“I’m so excited about being here and starting this journey,” he said.
