Injunction granted against Pa. pipeline protesters
MILFORD, Pa. (AP) — A judge has granted an injunction to prevent protesters from trespassing at work sites along a 40-mile natural gas pipeline project in Pennsylvania.
The Pocono Record reports Tennessee Gas Pipeline won the injunction Monday in Pike County court. Groups have been protesting construction of pipeline that includes 10.5 miles in the county.
Officials say several protesters were arrested in Westfall for climbing and sitting in trees slated for clearing. Two others allegedly secured themselves to a gate at an access point into Delaware Forest. There has also been vandalism reported in New Jersey, where the pipeline continues.
Judge Joseph Kameen ruled the company would experience irreparable harm if the trespassing continues.
An attorney for the protesters, Susan Lyons, says the injunction is unnecessary because tree-clearing has been completed.
