Mahoning County Commissioner Carol Rimedio-Righetti and her niece were among about 500 women at an invitation-only White House event with the president and first lady to recognize Women’s History Month.
“Being there with women from all over the United States was unbelievable,” Rimedio-Righetti said Monday just moments after the visit. “I met a lot of great people. It was memorable.”
Rimedio-Righetti took her niece, Katie Rimedio, who works for Honeywell, as her guest.
Rimedio-Righetti said she met first lady Michelle Obama and shook her hand at the event, but “there were too many people near the president” for her to get to Barack Obama.
“It was incredible to network with all of these women from across the country,” she said. “It’s something I’ll always remember.”
She said U.S. Rep. Tim Ryan of Niles, D-13th, and former Youngstown Mayor Jay Williams, deputy director of the Office of Intergovernmental Affairs in the Obama administration, were responsible for getting her an invitation to Monday’s White House event.
Righetti was last at the White House about 25 years ago for a Young Democrats event during the Jimmy Carter administration.
