Writers invited

Area writers, both published and unpublished, are invited to attend the next meeting of Monday Night Writers at 6 p.m. today at Peaberry’s Cafe, 4350 Boardman-Canfield Road, Canfield.

Led by author and professional writer Nancy Christie, the two-hour sessions include a mix of writing exercises, information on the creative and business aspects of writing and group feedback on works-in-progress.

Guitar performance

The Youngstown State University’s guitar studio will perform Thursday from noon to 1:30 p.m. at the Jewish Community Center of Youngstown’s J Cafe, 505 Gypsy Lane, Youngstown.

Tickets are $10 and include lunch.

Pianist plays

Tom Osuga, an acclaimed solo/chamber artist and pianist, will perform at 7 p.m. Thursday at Saints Peter and Paul Church, 421 Covington St., Youngstown. A graduate of Youngstown State and Kent State universities, Osuga teaches at Mannes College, the New School for Music, in New York. He has received the Biennium Award of the Cleveland Japanese- American Citizen League.

Scrabble tournament

Salem Public Library will host a Scrabble tournament Saturday in the library’s Quaker Room, 821 E. State St., Salem.

First-round play begins at 10 a.m. Prizes will be given to first- and second-place winners.

Relay kickoff

The Poland Relay for Life’s kickoff open house is 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. March 28 at Poland Memorial Baptist Church, 56 Water St., Poland. The general public and teams are encouraged to attend. The kickoff will celebrate the 100th anniversary of the American Cancer Society and will offer free refreshments, a 50/50 raffle, face painting and a variety of items for sale. All proceeds will be donated to the Poland Relay for Life.
