Gary Weiss, executive director of Youngstown’s Heritage Manor, recently received the Dr. Herbert Shore Award of Honor.

The award is considered the highest bestowed upon Jewish nursing-home executives by the National Association of Jewish Aging Services. Weiss received the award at the organization’s annual meeting in California earlier this month.

Kent State University’s MBA team has won the grand prize in the Cleveland Association for Corporate Growth Competition.

The regional competition involved mergers and acquisitions, and the group was able to use what it learned inside and outside of the classroom. The team was required to prepare an analysis and alternative recommendations and argue why one of the possible courses of action was the best. They then presented an implementation plan and how they would pay for it.

A division of FirstEnergy Solutions has been selected as a 2013 Energy Star partner of the year.

The award, presented by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, goes to organizations that have exhibited leadership across the Energy Star program, including energy-efficient products, services, new homes and building in the commercial and industrial sectors. Recipients are selected from nearly 20,000 organizations nationwide.

The Timken Co. has earned a position on the Ethisphere Institute’s World’s Most Ethical Companies list for the third time since 2010.

Ethisphere is an international organization focused on the advancement of best practices in corporate governance, risk, sustainability, compliance and ethics. To determine its list, Ethisphere uses in-depth research to determine where companies stand on such issues.

Frank Clinton, a local real- estate agent working for Howard Hanna Real Estate in Poland, recently was presented with the 2012 Esteem and Admiration award from Reality Alliance, a network of North America’s elite residential real-estate brokerages. Clinton was recognized as one of the country’s leading real-estate professionals. The award places him in the top 5 percent of Realtors.

The Home Savings and Loan Co. of Youngstown has named Pamela Berry director of the Home Savings Charitable Foundation. Berry, a Kent State University graduate, joined Home Savings in 1995. She has served in various roles in her 18 years at the bank.

Pennsylvania- based CJL Engineering has named Chris Morrone, of its Youngstown office, a partner in the firm.

Eric Bella, who also works in the Youngstown office, was named senior associate.

Jan Kehres has been added as a full-time staff physician’s assistant at Youngstown Orthopaedic Associates.

In her new role, Kehres will assist Dr. Douglas H. Musser in spine-surgery procedures and assist with patients in the office and at local hospitals. Kehres has a bachelor’s degree from Wittenberg University in Springfield and a master’s degree from Kettering College of Medical Arts in Kettering.

The Timken Co. has named Jeffrey L. Hill plant manager of its Niles Service Center.

Hill joined Timken’s industrial engineering unit in 1979. He has had various positions over the years, including area manager. He earned an associate’s degree in mechanical engineering technology from Penn Foster College in Scottsdale, Ariz.
