Lego building contest Saturday

The Mercer County Builders Association will host its 14th annual Lego building contest Saturday at Home Show Hall in the Hickory VFW, 5550 E. State St. Participants will be asked to construct a hunting lodge.

Schedules for building will be: Ages 8 and younger at noon, 9 through 12 at 1:30 p.m., and 3 through 99, in two-person teams only, at 3 p.m. Lego building kits and registration packets will be provided.

The top two scores in each category will receive awards. Entry is free for participants, but preregistration is recommended.

Learn to monitor shale-area streams

Representatives from the Alliance for Aquatic Monitoring at Dickinson College will have a free training workshop from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Saturday at the “Pig Barn” at Munnell Run Farm, 753 Greenville Road.

Individuals and groups interested in monitoring creeks and streams within the shale-gas drilling region are encouraged to attend. During the workshop, participants will learn about the importance of community monitoring, the science behind shale-gas drilling, water pollution that could stem from natural-gas drilling, and develop the tools to monitor, collect and analyze stream quality data.
