Learn to monitor streams in shale gas areas


MERCER, Pa.

Representatives from the Alliance for Aquatic Monitoring at Dickinson College will have a free training workshop from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Saturday at the “Pig Barn” at Munnell Run Farm, 753 Greenville Road.

Individuals and community groups interested in monitoring creeks and streams within the shale-gas drilling region are encouraged to attend.

During the workshop, participants will learn about the importance of community monitoring, the science behind shale gas drilling, water pollution that could stem from natural gas drilling, and develop the tools to monitor, collect and analyze stream quality data.
