The American Red Cross of the Mahoning Valley is seeking nominations for its 2013 Acts of Courage Awards.

Any heroic event occurring between April 1, 2012, and April 1, 2013, is eligible for a nomination.

The local Red Cross presents the awards during a special dinner and ceremony that takes place annually.

Technology, career expo

The public is invited to attend the Penn State Shenango Technology and Career Expo on March 27.

The event will take place from noon to 1 p.m. and from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at the Penn State Shenango auditorium on Shenango Avenue.

The afternoon event will include demonstrations of Web-based interviewing and career-search tips.

The evening event will include a demonstration of Windows 8 by a technology strategist from Microsoft Corp. Cellphone vendors and local computer providers will be available to showcase Windows 8 in action.

AKRON

FirstEnergy has introduced new technologies that make it easier for customers of its 10 utility companies, including Ohio Edison, to get information about their electric service on their computer or mobile device.

Customers can subscribe to receive alert notifications via email or text message that contain information about bills or weather conditions that may impact electrical service and updates on reported outages. Customers also can use text messaging to report outages, request updates on restoration efforts and make other inquiries about their electric accounts.

Timken purchases Interlube Systems

CANTON

The Timken Company announced this week its acquisition of Interlube Systems Ltd., which makes and markets automated lubrication delivery systems and related components to market sectors including commercial vehicles, construction, mining and heavy and general industries.

With 2012 sales of approximately $13 million and 90 employees, Interlube is based in the United Kingdom. It has an operation in Dayton and a joint venture in Zhuhai, China.

The purchase also includes MSP Distributors Ltd., also based in the United Kingdom. MSP installs and repairs lubrication systems.

As part of its growth strategy, Timken has been steadily adding to its product portfolio and sees Interlube as highly compatible to its core-bearing product lines and recent power transmission acquisitions.
