Submit services for Holy Week, Easter

The Vindicator will publish a listing of area services that are open to the public in observance of Palm Sunday, March 24; Maundy/Holy Thursday, March 28; Good Friday, March 29; Holy Saturday, March 30; and Easter, March 31.

The deadline to submit information is 5 p.m. Wednesday. Publication will be March 23.

Information should include the denomination and name of the church, address, city or suburb, the day, time, type of service, your name and a phone number for verification.

Mime ministry

Students on a Spiritual Mime Ministry Journey 4 Jesus! (SSMMJ4J) will present “For You, For Me” with original music composed by Leonard and Kay Suzelis.

The choir of Antioch Baptist Church, 110 Funston St., will present “Seven Steps To The Cross, A Pastors Perspective” at 4 p.m. March 24.

Easter cantata

An Easter cantata, “On a Hill Too Far Away,” will be presented at 3 p.m. March 24 at Hubbard First Presbyterian Church, 22 Westview Ave.

It will feature a 50-voice choir and video presentation. A reception will follow in the church hall. The event is free.

Seder planned

New Waterford United Methodist Church, 46925 state Route 46, will host “Christ In the Passover Seder Presentation” at 5:30 p.m. Sunday by Shofar Shalom Ministries.

It was founded in 1995 by Mark Kholos, who was raised Jewish in Pittsburgh, where he attended Hebrew schools and had his bar mitzvah. He moved to Warren in 1979. His wife, Cheryl, a singer/musician from Columbiana, will assist. The Seder presentation will be followed by a community meal and fellowship. For information, call the church at 330-457-7436.

Mime presentation

The sixth-graders of Immaculate Heart of Mary Church, 4490 Norquest Blvd., will present “The Last Hours of Jesus” in mime at 7 p.m. Friday and 9 a.m. Holy Thursday, March 28.

Cantata planned

Columbiana First Christian Church, 39 Cherry St., will present the adult choir cantata “No More Night” on Palm Sunday at services at 8:30 and 11 a.m.

Pastor anniversary

The 18th pastoral anniversary of Pastor Lowell T. Williams will be celebrated at the morning worship service March 24 with guest speaker the Rev. Larry Parker at Zion Hill Baptist Church, 220 Jefferson St.

Dr. Samuel Williams, pastor of New Zion Missionary Baptist Church in Pittsburgh, will speak at 3:30 p.m.

The theme is “Listen ... There’s a Message in the Message.” Willie Venters and Jane Veters are co-chairmen.

Sing-along scheduled

“Saturday Night Sing Along” is next Saturday at New Life Christian Fellowship, 2088 Tibbetts-Wick Road.

Snacks and coffee will be at 6 p.m. with Tina Hall in concert at 6:30. Singing of old hymns will start at 7. The event is free.

Retreat for women

The Women of Worship of Greater Friendship Missionary Baptist Church will sponsor a women’s retreat on the theme “Women in Her Problems, Her Prayers and Her Praise.”

The event will be April 5-7 at Bertram Inn and Conference Center in Aurora.

Women’s retreat

Faith Community Covenant Church, 1919 E. Midlothian Blvd., will host a women’s retreat from 6:30 to 9 p.m. April 12 and 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. April 13 at the church on the theme “Cozy Montain Lodge.”

Omega Sonship

Victory Christian Center, 3899 McCartney Road, will host the Friends of the Kingdom concert featuring Omega Sonship Band at 7 p.m. today.

Members are Joe and Donna Thomas, John Mancino and Ken Sausman. Joe Thomas is a senior pastor at Victory in Coitsville.

Other musicians from the 1970s Jesus People Movement include Terry and Diane McCabe, Steve Pappas, Tim Luman, Freddie Rodriguez, Larry Placer, Joe and Terri Huidek, George Fuentes and Johnny Mercado.

A free-will offering will be taken to benefit Mission Outfitter, which provides fresh drinking water to Peruvian people.

New Life Ministries

The Rev. Josephine “Jo Jo” Haracpio of Youngstown will speak when the Youngstown Chapter of Igniting New Life Ministries, an interdenominational ministry, meets Monday at Elton Beard Cabin in Boardman Park, 325 Boardman-Poland Road.

Fellowship will begin at 6:30 p.m., and the ministry is at 7.

Mass for new pope

To celebrate the election and installation of Pope Francis, a special Mass of Thanksgiving will be celebrated at 7 p.m. Tuesday at St. Columba Cathedral, 154 W. Wood St., with Bishop George V. Murry as celebrant. Priests of the diocese will concelebrate.

Tuesday is the feast of St. Joseph, is the date of Pope Francis’ installation Mass at 9:30 a.m. (Italy time) in Rome.

Cardinal Jorge Mario Bergoglio of Argentina was elected pope Wednesday.

The Mass is open to all.
