Youngstown State divers Bec Stafford and Casey Hill concluded competition at the NCAA Zone C diving championships on Friday at the Purdue Aquatic Center.

Stafford scored a 230.65 to finish 38th while Hill was 40th with a 226.65 in the one-meter event.

Stafford posted a high score of 43.20 on her third dive while Hill had a high of 45.60 on her second dive.

Penguin golf

Las Vegas, Nevada

The Youngstown State women’s golf team tied for sixth place at the Bucknell Bison Invitational which concluded on Friday at the Paiute Golf Club.

Aislynn Merling led the way for the Penguins tying for ninth place with a two-round total of 152.

Merling carded rounds of 75 and 77 for the event.

In the team standings, YSU had two rounds of 312 for a total of 624 to finish in a tie with Northern Illinois.

Nova Southeastern won the 13-team event with a 586. Freshman Emily Rohanna carded a 74-85-159 and finished 35th.

Cangelosi helps Phantoms win

BENSENVILLE, ILL.

Austin Cangelosi had a goal and two assists to lead the Youngstown Phantoms to a 4-3 victory over the Chicago Steel in a USHL game on Friday.

John Padulo, Eric Sweetman and Kyle Connor also scored for the Phantoms, who took a 4-1 lead in the opening minutes of the third period.

Sean Romeo made 33 saves for Youngstown.

Umpires to meet

The Youngstown Metro Umpire Association will hold an OHSAA baseball/softball meeting on Sunday at 1:15 p.m. at St. Nicholas Activity Center on Shady Run Road.

Umpires must attend at least four meetings to meet state requirements.

Perfect game

GREENVILLE, Pa.

Thiel baseball pitcher Nick Rossmiller tossed the first perfect game in Tomcat history as the Thiel baseball team defeated Hiram 14-0 on Friday.

The Butler, Pa. native shut down the Terriers (5-6) by tossing nine innings and striking out six over 106 pitches - 82 of which were for strikes.

Rossmiller is now 3-0 with a 0.78 ERA, and he has struck out 23 batters in 23 innings.

K.O. Drugs boxing

The K.O. Drugs high school boxing tournament will take place on Mondays in May and June at the Palermo Center in Campbell.

The tournament is open to boys and girls in Mahoning, Trumbull, Columbiana and Mercer counties.

Cap the Moment wins Aqueduct feature

NEW YORK

Cap the Moment won the $59,000 allowance feature at Aqueduct by 11/4 lengths Friday, squeezing through an opening on the rail to beat 7-5 favorite Most Happy Fella.

Apprentice jockey Pierre Tomas guided the 6-year-old gelding to his third win in 27 starts for trainer David Smith.
