POLICE CALLS

A summary of recent criminal activity in Girard and Liberty:

GIRARD

March 11

Domestic violence: Police charged a 17-year-old Girard male with the crime after his mother alleged the teen had grabbed and thrown her into a wall during an argument.

Arrest: Police responded to a car’s having struck a Mosier Road home, then cited 43-year-old Louis E. Crago III, 457 Illinois Ave., Girard, on a charge of operating a vehicle impaired.

March 12

Criminal mischief: Windows to two garages in the 300 block of Taylor Avenue were broken.

Theft: Someone hacked into a North State Street business’s checking account and electronically stole $1,544.

Possible identity fraud: An Elruth Court woman said a pediatrician called regarding the woman’s 6-year-old granddaughter’s medication, causing the pediatrician to become suspicious, apparently because no one else was to have been privy to that information. In addition, the woman told police, the girl had not needed such medication for several years.

Criminal damaging: Someone tossed a rock and broke a rear window to a residence in the 900 block of Gary Avenue. The damage estimate was $250.

Harassment: A Park Avenue woman reported receiving four such messages, including one advising her to quit her job.

Criminal damaging: A North Highland Avenue man heard someone throw an object and shatter his kitchen window.

March 13

Theft: A wallet and $100 were removed from a vehicle in the 700 block of Beaver Street.

Unauthorized use of a vehicle: A Stambaugh Street woman said her boyfriend borrowed but failed to return her 2000 Chevrolet Malibu.

March 14

Theft: Michael P. Shonce, 31, of 24 S. Whitney Ave., Youngstown, and Brian R. Fetty, also 31, of 122 N. Lorain Ave., Girard, faced theft charges after a worker for BNM Auto Sales Inc., 1429 S. State St., reported having seen a suspicious person underneath a vehicle. Later, Fetty was found hiding under another car before police gathered evidence that included a catalytic converter on the ground as well as a backpack containing two batteries, a jack, a pair of pliers and 17 saw blades, a report showed.

Harassment: A Lawrence Avenue woman said a man has continually left vulgar and unwanted messages.

LIBERTY

March 8

Drugs: Police on Fifth Avenue charged 18-year-old Lawrence R. Minotti, 159 Hager St., Hubbard, with marijuana possession, and 29-year-old Patricia S. Gaul, 325 E. Wilson Ave., Girard, with possession of drug paraphernalia.

Identity theft: A Shannon Road man who ran a credit report discovered an additional credit card had been issued in his name without authorization, though no fraudulent activity was detected.

Drug paraphernalia: A traffic stop near Logan Avenue resulted in the arrest of Lisa M. Johnston, 33, of 7737 Elm St., Masury, on charges of possession of drug-abuse instruments and drug paraphernalia when, officers said, two syringes and a spoon with suspected drug residue were found.

Arrest: A vehicle check on state Route 193 led to the arrest of 42-year-old Alexis Rivera, Chatham Lane, Youngstown, who was wanted on township warrants charging Rivera with robbery and burglary. A short time later, Girard authorities reported having custody of Aaron M. Bankston, 24, of 2824 Jean St., Youngstown, who also was wanted on a warrant.

Arrest: Police pulled over 19-year-old Dajhon K. Neely in the 3000 block of Hadley Avenue before learning Neely, of 4975 Sampson Drive, Liberty, was wanted on a charge of failure to appear in court.

Menacing: A West Liberty Street woman told police she believed a student at Liberty High School, 1 Leopard Way, sent her 16-year-old son threatening messages via Facebook.

Arrest: John R. Moore, 27, of 208 Clinton Ave., Youngstown, was booked at the Mahoning County jail on a charge of failing to appear in court.

March 9

Arrest: Authorities received a complaint about a person’s screaming profanities at employees of a Liberty Plaza store before charging 30-year-old Marcus W. Gayles, 460 Norwood Ave., Youngstown, with disorderly conduct. Gayles, who evidently was upset about a warranty for a cellphone, continued his verbal tirade and refused to desist, police said.

Drugs: While dealing with a shoplifting situation at Walmart, 200 Goldie Road, officers charged 19-year-old Mitchell Minniti with drug abuse. Minniti, of 2110 Arms Drive, Girard, had a bag of suspected marijuana, a report showed.

Arrest: Robin L. Briggs, 25, of 331 E. Judson Ave., Youngstown, was picked up near Belmont Avenue. He was wanted on a traffic warrant.

March 11

Theft: A wallet was among items taken from a car in the 800 block of Taylor Avenue.

Arrest: Police at the Mahoning County jail arrested 46-year-old Deana M. Stewart, 3802 Ayrshire Drive, Youngstown. She was accused of failing to appear in court on a theft count.

Theft: A man stole a $700 computer from Walmart before fleeing in a red four-door vehicle.

March 12

Domestic violence: A charge was pending against a 23-year-old Youngstown woman after her partner alleged she had punched the accuser’s face four or five times during an argument. The victim suffered a bloody lip.

Possible breaking and entering: Police investigated suspicious activity at a residence in the 2700 block of Merrill Road in which a plastic tub containing wiring and copper piping was found. Earlier, a witness reported having seen someone remove a water tank before the owner was notified and said no one had permission to do so.

March 13

Drugs: A traffic stop on Church Hill Road led to 26-year-old Darryl L. Juillerat’s arrest on a felony charge of heroin possession as well as one misdemeanor count each of possession of drug-abuse instruments and drug paraphernalia. Juillerat, of 3488 Oakmont Drive, Hubbard, had a bindle containing a substance he admitted was heroin; in addition, a bag of syringes and a spoon with drug residue were found, police said.

Stolen property: Officers in the 1600 block of Wilson Avenue responded to a woman who appeared to be dazed and confused before receiving word that a dealer license-plate on her car had been reported stolen. No charges were filed at the time of the report, however.

March 14

Arrest: Police on Logan Way stopped a car for speeding before taking 30-year-old Delataire White, no address listed, into custody. White was wanted on a probation-violation charge from Liberty.

Theft: A trailer containing 16 bundles of shingles was stolen from a driveway in the 1800 block of Twin Oaks Drive.
