Police continue their investigation today of a shooting on the East Side in which a man was wounded.
Reports said the shooting occurred on Lansdowne Boulevard shortly after 9:15 p.m. Thursday near a supermarket there. Police were informed a man was shot in his car. The shooter was described as wearing a gray, hooded sweat shirt. Police found numerous shell casings outside the vehicle and on the supermarket property.
An ambulance was sent to the scene and took the unidentified man to St. Elizabeth Health Center. There was no word on his condition as of press time.
Free screening kits
In recognition of March being National Colorectal Cancer Awareness Month, ValleyCare Health System of Ohio is offering free colorectal screening kits from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Wednesday.
With the free kits, screening is painless and easy and is done at home. Once completed, mail back the sample in the envelope included with the kit, and ValleyCare’s laboratory will perform the analysis and mail the results to the individual or his or her physician.
People can get the kit without leaving their cars at one of four locations: Northside Medical Center, 500 Gypsy Lane, Youngstown, pull in the main entrance and follow the “event” signs; ValleyCare Health Center Austintown, 20 Ohltown Road, pull in the main entrance; Trumbull Memorial Hospital Medical Professional Building, 1353 E. Market St., Warren, access from Laird Ave. Northeast; and ValleyCare Health Center–Elm Road, 2630 Elm Road, Building A, Cortland, pull in the main entrance and follow the signs to Building A. Sobriety checkpoint
CANFIELD
Police officers with Mahoning County OVI (Operating a Motor Vehicle under the Influence) Task Force will be operating a sobriety checkpoint in the county this weekend. The specific location of the checkpoint has not been disclosed. Ohio State Highway Patrol also will be assisting task-force officers.
